everything they did was real, the reason why it didnt catch on fire was because diesel doesnt ignite?? i thought it might have melted things like vacum hoses, and radiator hoses, also they droped it from the top of a building, not much debris to land on it, if it was droped from middle or ground floor, it would be wrecked.

I agree with backdraft123 though, the only evidence of the fire is where he put the two flames, they must have put it straight out.

I like these types of shows. I assume though that this program isn`t shown on BBC America... At least I have Mythbusters...

That proves why Toyota trucks are tough. My father had 4 4Runners in the past 15 years. (This truck is basically a 4Runner without the interior in the back half) Long Live Toyota trucks!!!

It is segments like those that make `Top Gear` one of my all time favourite TV shows.

As for the fire bit, I`ll bet they drained the tank, and maybe the fuel lines. Even so, diesel doesn`t burn as easily as petrol, so it`s probably legit.

My mom had a major car crash by a chevy avalanche. Her toyota survived. Toyota`s are known for their reliabilty also their durability. Japanese are just smarter than americans.

Hehe i cant get enough of Clarkson and richard hammond they both are well funny.

Clarkson is well known for doing weird and crazy experiments. he had his own talkshow where he did pretty much whatever he wanted to. like get rid of the US from the world map he had on the back wall of the TV set, along with a few other countries.

that was like a 16 minute advert for toyota.

i felt really sorry for the truck when it was in the water.. which is quite sad really.

backdraft123 could they not have siphoned the tank?

These things are built like tanks. I love Top Gear though. does anyone know when the new series starts?

cowboy561: water wouldn`t hurt diesel engines...but salt water sure as hell would (or i guess i should say should)...

still...truly awesome...

That was pretty impressive, but wouldnt the truck have blown up when they lit it on fire? That tells me they didnt let it reach engine because fuel + fire = a massive fireball or a larger fire, correct? Hmmm....still impressive either way.

diesel ot not, the way the truck was engineered to protect all of it naughty under bits... quality engineered and well placed seals, bearings, bracings, filters, etc. you can tell toyota dosent f*#@ around.

Toyota`s are designed extremely well. My Grandpa still has his old Toyota pickup, its really old, still works perfectley.

No, it isnt entirley true. A diesel engine does not rely on spark to run which means the water doesnt hurt it a bit. And diesel enines are designed to run 500+ thousand miles easy...On top of that a diesel engine will run on almost anything...

I now see why TOYOTA surpasses all car brands. I bet you a million bucks a ford could not do that.

it WOULD NOT have survived if it had been on the second story. thats IMPOSSIBLE! i think they should do this again, except put it on the second or third story. that would be AWESOME!

I worked for TRD for 2 years and especially liked a Times article in `03 about how three AK-47 clad Afghans in an old Tacoma were speeding toward a U.S. Marine base and firing. A soldier with a rocket launcher quickly handled them and they were killed instantly. Yup, it still ran and after the smoke cleared, the headlights were still on.
