Great character. I`d recommend York as well if you want great historical tales.

Incidentally, Wallace being hung, drawn and quartered is the only thing in Braveheart that`s true. Everything else in it is just anti-English propaganda that`s even more false than the usual nationalist drivel, descending into absurdity in places (e.g. Wallace having a child with a woman who was in reality an 8 year old girl at the time and in a different country).
Wallace`s execution, overkill much? ;-)
There was a lot of that on both sides. That Scottish civil war was going to be bad even before the King of England took advantage of it.

There are extant original records that indicate how badly Wallace`s invasion force devastated northern England. Yes, Scotland invaded England...repeatedly. On this occasion it was an English king using a Scottish civil war to gain power, but the previous occasion was the other way around (Scotland invaded England and seized a large area of England during the English civil war of the early 12th century).

Medieval England kept meticulous records of taxes and the value of the areas Wallace attacked was reduced to less than half the pre-invasion value. Contempory accounts record panicked civilians fleeing, people being burnt alive by the invading Scots, etc, etc.

There was plenty of overkill, but it went both ways.
The French thing kinda puts me in mind of something I read somewhere whereby the French refer to a woman`s "monthly bills" as "The English are invading again eh?" You two old timers never let up on one another, do you? ;-)
It`s obviously all their fault! :)

I still sometimes hear people refer to rude or crude language as "French". We no longer call sexually transmitted diseases "French" though, so there`s progress :)

Considering the history between our countries (war, war and more war for centuries, with a side helping of massacres and invasions), relationships between France and England are remarkably friendly. I say "England" rather than "UK" because the conflict predates the union and was specifically with England.

All of this is caused by their socialist NHS.
They don`t let this poor guy (a veteran probably) remove his funny bone.

Not to mention the fact that this is the Tower just makes me want to see haunted London and other famous ghost spots there even more.
