The woman you see in the screen cap up above is Liberte Chan, KTLA's weekday-morning meteorologist -- a fancy word for the person who reads the weather in front of a green screen.
In an age when network weather reporters are headed in a certain direction (attractive, bubbly, "fun," and outfitted in "sexier" clothing), KTLA is doing what KTLA does -- the Los Angeles station hired Chan to compete with the Yanet Garcias of the news world.
Naturally, Chan is getting heat for her black cocktail dress in the photo above -- from readers and seemingly, her co-workers. In the video below. You'll see one of Chan's male co-workers hand her a cardigan sweater to cover up, clumsily explaining he's heard some people complaining about her "inappropriate" outfits as of late.
She seems a little upset by the gesture, and one can see why -- it's unprofessional and panders to the notion that Chan's too slutty for morning news. They then read some hateful reader mail during the commercial breaks. It all could have been handled after the broadcast.
Chan takes it well, but the entire way the events played out are definitely insulting. I'm not sure who's decision it was to dress her up in tighter, more revealing outfits, but if I had to guess, KTLA management suggested it, and Chan agreed to it.
Too slutty or is this just the cost of business in the network television world?
