Alan Vega, the leader of the influential leader of the electronic two-man band, Suicide, died yesterday at the age of 78. “Alan passed peacefully in his sleep last night, July 16,” a statement from Vega's family said. “Alan was not only relentlessly creative, writing music and painting until the end, he was also startlingly unique." Suicide recorded five studio albums.
Admittedly, I didn't get into Vega's work until decades after his band's first legendary self-titled debut in 1977. They say some music is challenging to listen to, and some music, you have to be "ready to listen to" and that's what Vega's music was -- challenging and not for everyone -- but it was definitely influential.
