Toblerone Chocolates Is Getting Their Own Voter Backlash

It's 2016 and the lists of things the world is running out of has already graced the pages of Buzzfeed at least once. You’d think people would understand chocolate is a finite commodity and is therefore subject to cost inflation but that’s of no consolation to freaked out Toblerone fans. The Swiss chocolate maker had to adjust the size of their bars, making them slightly smaller because the Swiss Franc weakened in 2015 and the cost of chocolate is getting pricier.

An excerpt from Perth Now:

Mondelez foreshadowed the backlash on its Facebook page in a post on October 15, where it explained the company was facing higher costs for ‘numerous ingredients’.

‘We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products,’ it said.”

“Toblerone-lovers worldwide are outraged, and have hardly been satisfied by assurances from manufacturer Mondelez International that it won’t affect all its products, mainly just those sold in Britain.

The change has led to a widespread social media revolt, with fans flooding the brand’s Facebook pages with complaints, and of course expressing their distaste through a healthy range of memes.

This is how it works: A company makes Goop and markets it in 20oz bottles and it cost's $10. Over time, the cost to manufacture Goop increases and to maintaine the profit margin they slightly undersize the package to 19oz bottles so that they can continue to sell it for $10. Then 18oz for $10, 17oz for $10 and finally 16oz for $10. They have reached a point where the package size is notably smaller...so they introduce a NEW ECONOMY SIZE bottle of Goop which they will regrettably have to increase the price of...A 20oz bottle of Goop for $12.50. And the process repeats.

"chocolate is a finite commodity and is therefore subject to cost inflation" BLASPHEMY!!! this is a true outrage. forget trump, forget the shit going on in my life, we need to make chocolate an INFINITE commodity that will NEVER be subject to inflation. to bump up the price of chocolate is sacrelicious! it goes against the very rights of humanity. we human beings deserve the right to eat chocolate (no chocolate for squirrels)! what evil diabolical scoundrel is responsible? there has to be someone to blame! there is always someone to wave the finger at so we dont have to feel bad about our fat asses eating too much chocolate! its that sugar guy from the simpsons played by ben stiller, isnt it? garth motherloving! that motherloving bastard!

This was done for a specific retailer from what I can gather- Poundland. I suspect one can still purchase normal Toblerones at other shops.
