An Attorney, Moonlighting As An Uber Driver, Lawyered A Cop And It Was Beautiful To Watch

Submitted by: fancylad 2 weeks ago News & Politics

Everything you need to know about this article is in the video above, but to break it down very quickly, a North Carolina cop, Sgt. Kenneth Becker, was recorded on the dashcam of Jessie Bright, full time lawyer, part time Uber driver. The cop pulled Bright over and when Sgt. Becker saw the camera, he went into Nazi Cop mode...

"Don’t record me. You got me?” the ignorant Becker said. "Be careful because there is a new law. Turn it off, or I’ll take you to jail."

"For recording you? What is the law?” Bright asked. He was never given an answer, but the belligerent cop continued...

"You’re being a jerk," the bully cop added before calling in a K-9 unit. "You better hope we don’t find something in your car."

“I’m scared right now. I’m not being a jerk. I’m recording in case anything happens,” Bright responded

And this is why street cops are street cops, not lawyers. Know your rights because most cops know just enough to protect themselves.

The Nazi cop's Department Chief Ralph Evangelous confirmed that you can indeed record on-duty cops in a Facebook message on the Wilmington, NC PD account...

"Taking photographs and videos of people that are in plain sight, including the police, is your legal right. As a matter of fact, we invite citizens to do so when they believe it is necessary. We believe that public videos help to protect the police as well as our citizens and provide critical information during police and citizen interaction. A copy of this statement will be disseminated to every officer within the Wilmington Police Department."

Harassed?  Who the fuck cares about getting harassed?

I am worried about getting KILLED for a broken tail light.

And the same story will be told; there was a struggle, i went for a gun, there was no choice but for the 7 cops at hand to shoot me 83 times.

And if there is no video evidence to gainsay the cops statement, they will get medals for killing me.

Harassed lol... If i ONLY had to worry about getting harassed, then YAYYYY GO MURICA!

daegog I remember talking on a forum about something I like to do when I'm pulled over -  get out of the car and approach the cop in a friendly way, ID at the ready. I'm a very tall man, and I got tired of cops 'talking down' to me in the car. Getting out of the car means that they're on an even footing, and I find that they're much more professional that way.

But on the forum, the American users were telling me that I was fucking nuts to be getting out of the car, and that there was a good likelihood I'd get shot. It is bizarre to me to be so scared of your police using lethal force.

Well of course. Knowing the law is a lawyers job, A Cops job is to enforce it

mrteatime No, not joking. I've never committed a serious crime but every time I've encountered police is was a BAD situation for me. My Dad was the down sheriff, I was naturally brought up to respect cops.  But frankly I'm afraid of them. And that is based on their behavior. They are not there to help you, they are there to pin some crime on you.

Gerry1of1 I have a buddy named Johnnie that I see come through my work every night. And almost every single night the cops are either following him to the store, or they follow him him home.

He has a nice car and a great paying job doing high level IT at Comcast. But he's black, and the same cops follow him almost every single night. To the point where he barely even pays attention to them any more.

It's not the same.

thezigrat I was joking about my comment of "white people don't get pulled over and harassed". I had a cop tell me to get my head out of my ass because i left my blinker on. I felt like it might have been a little over aggressive but who am i to say.

theman01 Then again some cops are good, like the one that pulled me over. Walked up and asked me if I knew why he pulled me over I said no. He told me to get out of the car and face the car. as I did he said I left a bag of groceries on the roof . Then said have a nice day and walked back to his patrol car chuckeling.

theman01 Let me look for it -- it might have just slipped through the cracks -- sometimes I get dozens of submissions a day, sometimes none.
