Rachel Maddow Got A Hold Of Trump's 2005 Tax Returns And It Was A Whole Lotta Nothing

Submitted by: 5cats 1 month ago News & Politics

Ever since Trump started his presidential campaign, everyone has been kind of asking, "Um, let's see your tax returns because we all know there's going to be evidence of you linked to Russia and other countries that will surely compromise your credibility and security as the President of the United States.

And I'm sure those damning tax returns are out there, but last night, when Rachel Maddow presented the first two pages of Trump's 2005 tax returns which didn't show anything other than he only made $150 million (sounds low for a bigtime mover and shaker like he claims to be) and paid $4 million in taxes (a measly 4 percent), and another $31 million under the alternative minimum tax (Trump's trying to eliminate the AMT), I feel like she overplayed her hand. Now if she had full tax filings from the last 5 years or so, then she would've had something. She got excited and jumped the gun.

Two pages of a 12-year-old tax filing is hardly Stop the presses-worthy. And as a matter of fact, the popular theory is that the Trump Regime leaked these themselves. I mean, let's be honest -- a partial 2005 tax return with very little detail other than his income and taxes paid? My tax returns are about 15 pages long and detail everything from my income to charitable donations.

The partial tax returns were mailed to by an anonymous source to "The Daily Beast" contributor David Cay Johnston.

Written by: fancylad who started to write this story up and he wasn't going to fucking delete it because he spent too much time writing it, before it was submitted by original submitter, 5cats.

From 5cats: How is President Trump's 2005 partial return any different than Obama's birth certificate?

1. This document is illegally obtained and illegally aired. This is a confidential document which is not public knowledge. And it is over a decade old. Trump has every right to NOT provide it.

2. Obama's birth certificate is mandatory paperwork, publicly available for anyone to see which Obama was required to provide before he even ran for president. But he refused to provide it.

How can this be anything but bullshit? Guess what! It is nothing but bullshit.

Anyone, on the left or the right, who watches 24 hour cable news is dumber for it. Watching spin and lies does not leave you more informed. All it does is make you stupider than before you watched. You can tell who the IAB cable news watchers are. They are the ones consistently parroting partisan misinformation.

Lolz! Maddow 'proved' that Trump pays more taxes than Sanders or Obama, % wise.

He hate blinds her to what she's doing, she's actually helping Trump out :-)

Funny how FancyLad sneaks an anti-trump post in under someone else's name eh? Lolz!

The actual news coverage of this (linked below) points out how this is entirely illegal. How dozens of leftists 'journalists' asked people to break the law and send them Trump's taxes. That in itself is actually illegal.

Anyhow, Carlson's coverage of this is terrific, as expected :-) How the MSM covers one of their own breaking the law and being an idiot will be the most interesting part of this latest fiasco.

And if you thought that was anti-Trump, you haven't been paying attention.

fancylad Lolz, no worries, thanks for putting the Carlson one up too! Now it is indeed fair and balanced.

You do have a solid reputation of posting anti-trump stuff eh? And Maddow is as anti-trump as they get, as well as a certified lunatic... hope she loses her job over this one, just like Rather.

5cats I've never been a fan of Maddow, but after tonight, I'm embarrassed for her. She set the media back years. If I was her, I'd call in sick for the rest of the month.

fancylad Right! Trump became a multi-billionaire by accident! Because other people just gave him mountains of money! He's so stupid eh?

You do know that EVERY Republican President since Nixon has been labeled as 'stupid' by the MSM and DNC, right? That if you cry 'wolf' often enough no one believes it any longer...

fancylad He's worth 10 Billion bucks, give or take, no matter how many lies NF2 speads about him.

Obama barely held a job in his life...
Prince Justin (in Canada) literally worked 1 part-time job for 2 years in his entire lifetime... not exaggerating.
Who among these 3 knows more about finances? OF COURSE if you take risks? Sometimes the risks will fail. That's WHY they are CALLED risks and not 'sure bets' in the first place, ok? Lolz! He has 100s of wins against 13 losses? If he were a baseball team? A season of 149-13 would smash every record in existence...

Welp, she just ruined the Liberal Talking Point that Trump doesn't pay taxes.  Turns out he pays a higher tax rate than Obama AND Maddow.

I think they need to get the 'nice white jacket with the arms that tie in the back' for Rachel ready.

megrendel Turns out he pays a higher tax rate than Obama AND Maddow.

He paid 3 percent on his income. Only the wealthy pay Alternative Minimum Tax unlike poors like me, you, and Maddow (relatively speaking).

I wouldn't count that as a feather in Trump's fright wig -- he's actively trying to get rid of the AMT.

fancylad to be fair, whether the tax he paid is called income tax or AMT, they both came from the same pocket - in 2005.  I'm with you and many other in this thread in thinking this was "leaked" by one of his comrades, and 2005 put his best foot forward.  I find the lack of any additional pages telling.
The people who think these two pages prove anything are delusional.  Claim it as a victory if you want, but it will likely come back to bite you later.

fancylad 38 million on 150 is not 3%... more like 25%

And since he still could have carried forward all those losses he had way back when? It proves he paid a crap-ton of taxes over the years. As much as legally required.

fancylad No, the whole "carry losses forward scandal" bullshit was posted on IAB. It was pointed out that it is completely legal, and that the Clintons also used it, and not one DNC or MSM member complained about them.

So this return is within the legitimate time he could still be using that deduction. The fact that he has NOT used it means he's already earned more than that to be taxed on, and has started paying full taxes again. Simple, E-Z.

And 38 divided by 150 is around 25%... not 3%... and 25% is actually MORE than the average the top 1% of America pays (which is 19% I've read) ... so Trump pays his fair share, at least in 2005 :-)

Real estate development, investing, brokerage, sales and marketing, property management, hotels, resorts, residential towers, golf courses, construction, hospitality, entertainment, book and magazine publishing, media, model management, retail, financial services, board game development, food and beverages, business education, online travel, airlines, helicopter air services, beauty pageants, retailing, fashion apparel, jewelry and accessories, books, home furnishings, lighting products, bath textiles and accessories, bedding, home fragrance products, small leather goods, barware, steaks, chocolate bars, and bottled spring water.

To name a few.

megrendel Just a guess, mind you, but I'm thinking he meant "where" in a geographical sense.

Also, "turns out he paid a higher tax rate than Obama AND Maddow," not necessarily "pays." Maybe, but we don't know.

Lastly, your remark about the white jacket with arms that tie in the back reminded me of this:

This election really did a number on her. I don't think she can hold it together much longer. What is wrong with people? I haven't been particularly happy with the POTUS election results in decades but I never let it ruin my life and push me way over the edge the way I have seen this one do to so many. The guy won. Can we just see what he can do?

We have and it's not very impressive. From him naming DeVos as head of education on down the line. I mean, she might prove herself an excellent fit for the job, but who wants to bet me that she fucks shit up by the end of this year.

fancylad He named someone you don't approve of to a post? Oh the horror.  I think education is already fucked up and he can appoint whoever he wants if he thinks they will help him accomplish the things he campaigned on. We'll see. He's only been in office 50 days. So far the only real change I've seen is economic and it's been great news. Again, we'll see.

BIG MISTAKE from Rachel to release these.  This takes the onus off the POTUS to release further tax returns.  Trump played Rachel Maddow like a fiddle andr needs to send a bouquet of flowers to Rachel for jumping the gun on this.

2005 was the PINNACLE of the housing market.  Trump "leaked" this tax return to the Pulitzer prize winning journalist, and somehow gave this to Rachel.  Rachel should have sat on this for a while to study it before being played a patsy.

This tax return makes him seem fine.  He paid roughly 24% in taxes.  Still lower than most of us but now his blind followers like 5cats can say LOOK HE PAID TAXES.  I'd love to see what he post recession returns show.

No, maggots like you will never be satisfied. Nothing on this Earth short of assassination will make you happy. If one demand is met? You'll just make up 3 more to replace it.

5cats Yawn, Just to be clear Trump did awesome here.  He got ahead of this.  He paid 24% effective tax rate.  That's still lower than what I do.  Taking his "best year" in the last 10 years and ignore the rest is silly.  I'd love to see the tax returns for the last 10 years heck 20 years.   His son stated they have a lot of properties in Russia.  Trump says they have no Russia ties.  Tax returns would start showing some of his foreign ties.

normalfreak2 You said it better than me. The Daily Beast writer and Maddow did get played. Ask any legit police detective -- you gather evidence, study it, make sure you have an air-tight collar, then go in for the kill.

Maddow pounced on table scraps and it blew up in her face. Trump's tax returns are out there, and they probably have enough evidence to bury him (which is why he's not releasing them in the first place), but two pages from a return in a year when most of his money was made from two real estate sales? There's nothing there -- she just got excited that she had the first bits of his tax returns.

When we see the returns that tie him to Russia or China, then we're talking.

5cats When it comes to the presidency, Trump is stupid, Trump is an idiot, Trump doesn't know anything.

You think Trump masterminded this? No. This was a White House-group effort led by Bannon. Trump might've been in the room when this all went down, but Trump's not smart enough to execute this.

Bannon and his goons found two documents that were safe enough to leak, fed it to an over-eager Maddow, and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
