Visiting Tokyo On A Poor Man's Budget? Stay In One Of The City's "Capsule Hotels"

Submitted by: fancylad 1 week ago Lifestyle

If you're OK with claustrophobia, you're going to love Tokyo's coffin-sized accommodations. And you thought this guy living in a rental storage locker was bad.

One thing though -- I'm not so sure if that foot bath the guy was using out in front of the capsule hotel was really just a reflecting pool put there for aesthetics.

Been around for years and its a great idea. As long as you can get some sleep, you are secure while asleep then why not? I'm not even a little bit claustrophobic though- as long as I can breathe I'm fine.

Wouldn't be my first choice of room, but if needs must then I could put up with it for a few weeks of travelling round on the cheap.  I once lived with five other guys in an ISO container for a few weeks.... the military's idea of 3 star accomodation - the lack of privacy or space wasn't a problem, but until we found a local person with washing facilities it fuckin' stank.

I have seen a few on the news that were very nice,  although a bit bigger. The ones i saw were about 4x4x6 and had a TV, a radio, AC /heating and were sound proof and had a glass door that blacked out with a flip of a switch

So are we going to love every snoring person in the other capsules around ? I would not, for sure. Even if i'm drunk. robthelurker : This is why there is "forced sleep" in the ship to Floston Paradise.

A few years back I discovered that spas in Macau offered free capsule hotel accommodation with a basic massage. So for about twenty bucks, you could get unlimited Chinese food, a safe clean place to sleep, movies, a spa, shower, haircut (extra), shave, 45 minute massage and a happy ending from a pretty Vietnamese gal.

Looks cleaner and safer than a hostel.  Don't know if i'd trust one if they built one in the United States, though.
